new friends and projects with garioch heritage centre

Garioch Heritage Society is moving into premises at Inverurie’s former locomotive works and we were delighted to get a personal guided tour of the soon to open fantastic new building by the very friendly Nora Radcliffe, chairwoman of the society.

The building is part of the east end of what was the Carriage and Wagon Repair Shop at the famous Inverurie Loco Works.  It has been seen a very contemporary architectural conversion including a mezzanine floor giving a very large display area, a cafeteria and a 100-seat conference/activity room.  The conversion has seen the reinstatement of the nine iconic wooden double doors.  Work is in progress, but Nora hope to see the centre open towards the end of the summer. Currently while the busy team of volunteers is getting the great collection ready for display you can enjoy a great cup of coffee and delicious homemaking at the the works coffee shop.

We look forward to the opening and to planning some events that may include the heritage society in our engagement strategies with Inverurie Hospital. We are keen to support this amazing community development any way we can.
